Thomas Huber

Thomas Huber was born in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1955. He lives and works in Berlin.

After attending London’s Royal College of Art and the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Thomas Huber developed a figurative and metaphysical painting.

Huber’s work unveils an ironic imaginary world. He uses complex processes of symbolization, fundamentally questioning the possibility of representing reality. Different temporalities coexist, and seemingly contradictory elements inhabit illusory spaces, combining classical and utopian architecture.

For the artist, an image functions as a social space, inviting the spectator to contemplation. The latter is simultaneously included in and excluded from Huber’s paintings. The canvas serves as the meeting point between the painting’s own visible reality and the concealed depth of the image, a mise en abyme that underlines its enigmatic essence.
